Jenny Rocha is the Artistic Director and Choreographer for The Painted Ladies. She is also a performer, booking manager and costume designer for the company. Jenny has been a resident artist at Galapagos Art Space since 2008 and has created a large repertory of dance acts/vignettes for the group. She books the dance group for variety shows, entertainment companies, corporate events, clubs, cabaret shows, private parties and more. In addition to The Painted Ladies, she is also director/choreographer of her modern dance company, Rocha Dance Theater and a teaching artist. Currently, she is the lead instructor for BAM’s “Dancing Into the Future program and on the guest faculty at Mark Morris Dance Center. For a full bio, click here!
Jillian Hollis received her early training from the Center of Ballet and Dance Arts in Syracuse, NY. Her passion for dance lead her to Point Park University where she graduated with a BA in dance. Jillian has been working with Rocha Dance Theater since 2004 and is an original member of the Painted Ladies. She also serves as rehearsal director for the company and has been described as “Blithley irrepressible” in the New York Times by Jennifer Dunning. She has been a company member of Heidi Latsky Dance since 2002 and continues to work and collaborate with numerous other artists including Take Dance, Carrie Ahern Dance, Joseph Mills, Heather Harrington, The Good to Go Girls, Lady Rizo & the Assettes and Vertical Aerial Arts/Jennifer Kovacs. Jillian performs in the Burlesque scene under her alter ego Gigi Bonbon, studies Lyra and is a Pilates teacher in New York CIty.
Casey Loomis is a Brooklyn-based performer, visual artist and Pilates instructor. Since graduating from Skidmore College in 2008 she has been very lucky and grateful to work with the Metropolitan Opera, Compagnie Julie Bour, Faye Driscoll, Netta Yerushalmy, Buglisi Dance Theater, Brian Brooks Moving Company, KEIGWIN + Company and ChristinaNoel & the Creature, among others. She is currently dancing with Doug Varone and Dancers and performing weekly with Jenny Rocha & Her Painted Ladies. In 2010, The New York Times wrote in reference to her work with Julie Bour: “Ms. Loomis…lends a luminous presence to the stage.” As a visual artist, Casey makes color-driven, abstract paintings and dabbles in costume design, photography and other mediums.
Molly Merkler is a Hoosier by homeland and a New Yorker by nature. Born and raised in Fort Wayne, Indiana, she began her dance training at the age of five at the Fort Wayne Ballet Academy. It was there, as a sophomore in high school, that she was introduced to Lees Hummel, who would help guide Molly through her transition into modern dance and subsequent move to New York City. In 2001, Molly left Indiana to attend New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where she received her BFA in dance performance in 2004. Since graduating Molly has been blessed to perform frequently throughout the city and country. In 2007, Molly was invited to join Rocha Dance Theater and The Painted Ladies. She feels honored to be a part of such an innovative and fun company.
Courtney Drasner grew up in Minnesota and later received a BFA in dance from NYU. Since graduating, she has been fortunate enough to perform with Max Stone, Gibney Dance, Erica Essner, Jana Hicks, Donnell Oakley, Jordana Che Toback, Sarah Donnelly, and the Median Movement, among others. She is thrilled to be the newest member of the Painted Ladies and Rocha Dance Theater.
Jamie Graham, Jamie Graham, a Nashville native, began dancing with Rocha Dance Theater in 2010 and joined the Painted Ladies in 2011. When Jamie isn’t with the Ladies, she is one half of the dance theater comedy improv duo The Raving Jaynes with Amy Larimer, who have been presented across the states and in Sweden and Holland. Jamie also works with Barbara Mahler and Naomi Goldberg Haas / Dances For A Variable Population, and once upon a time Juliana May / May Dance. She completed a B.F.A. in Dance and B.A. in English Literature at Webster University, St. Louis, as well as a year of post graduate study at The Rotterdamse Dansacadamie / CODARTS, Holland.
Stephanie Lane has danced for Jenny Rocha since 2010, first with Rocha Dance Theater’s Mandorla, and then with The Painted Ladies. She’s currently working toward her MFA in Acting at NYU Tisch. Stephanie has danced in works by Ani Javian, Stephen Petronio, Gerald Casel, Camille A. Brown, Jeanine Durning, Nicholas Leichter, and Colleen Thomas. She also makes her own dance-theater work — most recently Lighthouse Triptych, inspired by Virginia Woolf’s To The Lighthouse and performed at Dixon Place and The Brick Theater. www.stephaniejeanlane.com
Joseph Rivas is a music producer, composer and DJ. He is the music editor, website designer and video editor for The Painted Ladies and also the music director, video and web designer for Rocha Dance Theater. Joe has created his own label, Beat Instinct, where he releases original tracks and remixes regularly.
