Battledress: The Azores Premiere & Workshop Series

Rocha Dance Theater will be participating in their first international tour to Azores, Portugal this September, an opportunity I’m particularly excited about, as my family is from Sao Miguel, Azores. With the support of a grant from the US Embassy in Lisbon, I will lead a 5 day workshop for students ages 13-18, teaching a modern technique class and setting a section of Battledress. At the end of the week, my company will perform a trio version of Battledress at a local theater called Teatro Ribeiragrandense. Free to the public, the students will have an opportunity to perform the culminating piece that was created during the workshop as part of our show. Performers include longtime company members Jillian Hollis, Courtney Drasner and me. Joseph Rivas composed the music for Battledress! He will also attend, documenting the workshop and performance. My mom will assist me during some of the workshops as a translator.

We will be creating a campaign to help fund the 2nd half of this tour. Funds are still needed for artist compensation and a few production costs. Please stay tuned! And if you’d like to donate now, here is a link:
